The Drumheller RCMP and the Town of Drumheller Bylaw Enforcement are reaching out to the community to share a cup of coffee and maybe a bagel.
The RCMP is hosting Mocha with the Mounties and A Bagel with Bylaw. This is an opportunity to sit down with members of the RCMP and Bylaw to discuss policing.
“We are just looking to meet and greet with anybody from the detachment area whom would like to sit down with us and ask questions or provide us any
feedback,” said Staff Sergeant Ed Bourque. “We just want to open the floor for discussion.”
Mocha with the Mounties is on October 30 at Café Ole. Bourque said there have been a number of recent arrests in the area, that could be a topic of discussion.
“It is nice for us to update the community. Obviously, there has been a ton of media releases of late in terms of some of the work our crime reduction team, plain-clothed unit, and uniformed officers have been doing,” he said. “As well I think a lot of people have been talking about the Criagmyle incident as well.”
On October 11, two people broke into an occupied home in the early morning hours demanding cash. Both are believed to have been armed.
“There is a lot of concern out there and we want to make sure people out there know those types of incidents are a huge priority for detachments to ensure people are feeling safe in their homes,” he said.
Bourque adds this is a good opportunity to build relationships.
“We want to share with the most important people, the people we never get to deal with. We usually get to deal with 1 per cent of people, but we definitely want to meet with the citizens that we appreciate the support from and want to work with,” he said.
The Mocha with Mounties goes on at 6 p.m. on October 30 at Café Ole.
