Stingerz allstar cheer team comes to valley

20190817 155002

After nine years of success in Medicine Hat, the Stingerz Elite All-Starz Cheerleading has brought their international cheerleading program to Drumheller.
The team expanded into Drumheller to meet a ‘high-demand’ for cheering here, says coach Dawn Wilson, who said the team has already received over 150 calls from people even as far as Strathmore. The team expands from their Medicine Hat organization, which has sent teams to international competitions in Mexico and Vancouver.
Coach Wilson says cheerleading has become increasingly popular in Canada, and more and more private cheerleading organizaitons are forming as school cheer teams seem to be in decline.
She says teams prefer to start training cheerers when they’re young, and continuing development into their teenage years. The Stingerz offer two options for athletes, starting with the youth prep team (ages 6-11) and the senior team (11-18).
Wilson says they work at developing an all around athlete and that “sportsmanship is number one in our world.”
“Our program is known for two things, strong foundations and coaching expertise. We grow an athlete, which sets them up for success for the length of the cheer program.
The Stingerz were busy recruiting potential athletes at the fall sports expo, and more information is available on their website online.
