Police say it was very fortunate that nobody was struck when a truck pulling a camper down Centre Street collided with parked vehicles and into the side of The Recovery Tap House shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Drumheller RCMP, the Drumheller Fire Department and EMS responded to a collision on the corner of Centre Street and North Railway Avenue. It appears that a truck southbound on Centre Street plowed into four parked cars and into the side of the Recovery Tap House.

Constable Eric Doucette said, according to witnesses, the driver of the truck with British Columbia plates appeared to have had a medical episode like a seizure. A passenger in the truck reached over and grabbed the steering wheel to take control of the truck.

“She was able to steer the vehicle the best she could and eventually the truck and motorhome, after bouncing off a few vehicles, hit The Recovery and came to a stop partially inside the building,” said Doucette.

There was no one in the parked vehicles. The driver was taken for medial treatment and police are not aware of any other injuries.

“It was incredibly fortunate that no one was struck,” said Doucette. It could have been a million times worse.”
