The Drumheller Dragons welcomed the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the AJHL North to Memorial Arena tonight for a game that left fans on the edge of their seats throughout.
The Oil Barons opened the scoring with two goals, the first by Michael Sauer and the second by Mitchell Vanderlaan but the Dragons fought back scoring two goals; first Ethan James and second Ryan Jevne, his first as a Dragon, to tie up the game at the end of the first. The second period gave the Oil Barons another lead when Trent Lofthouse scored but the Dragons' Mitch Cook answered back to tie the game once again, this time at three a piece.
The third period saw one goal by each team. First Jackson McKinstry of the Oil Barons on the power play at 3:26. Then the Dragons' Jevne, with his second of the night, tied the game at 9:58 forcing 3:28 of overtime before James scored the game winning goal to give the Dragons a 5-4 win, their first in five games. The Dragons travel to Brooks tomorrow night to face the Bandits at Centennial Regional Arena with a 7 p.m. start.
