Men crowned Battle of Sexes Champions

It was a close race to the finish, but the men were victorious in the Drumheller Aquaplex’s Battle of the Sexes, as displayed by Cody Gouin, left, and Matt Lauridsen above. The final count from the Aquaplex is 11,854 lengths for the men, and 11,569 lengths for the women - the men win by 285 lengths. The competition started February 23 and was extended from March 8 to March 11 because of a couple of brief pool closures.

Participants in the challenge had to register the lengths they swam during lane swim or in a designated lane if there were other activities at the pool. The minimum number of lengths each person could register was 2, and the maximum was 700. All participant names are put in a draw for a three-month Aquaplex pass, one each for the men and ladies.  The ladies were the challenge winners last year after a close race.
