Three Hills, Alberta - On March 11th, 2014 at approximately 4:45 pm., Three Hills RCMP, Trochu Fire Department, and Alberta Health Services responded to reports of a serious 2 vehicle collision at the intersection of Range Road 25-1 and Township Road 33-2, located approximately 26 km North West of Three Hills.  Further reports indicated 1 of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames.

The investigation revealed that a 2014 Ford Explorer being driven by a 60 year old female from Trochu, Alberta was travelling north on Range Road 25-1 when it was struck by a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup truck that failed to stop at a stop sign.  The pickup truck was being driven by a 47 year old male from Huxley Alberta whom was travelling east on Township Road 33-2.  The pickup truck was found fully engulfed in flames by other motorists that came upon the scene.  The fire was extinguished by the fire department upon their arrival.

Although he escaped the burning vehicle and did not sustain burn injuries, the driver of the pickup truck died at the scene.  The driver of the Ford Explorer was transported to Red Deer Hospital by ground ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.  The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time and is pending notification of next of kin.

Road and weather conditions were not a factor in this collision.  A Collision Analyst attended the scene.  RCMP Continue to investigate.
