Standard looks ahead following election

It’s been over a month since Albertans headed to the polls to choose their municipal leaders for the next four years. Since then, smaller municipalities have chosen who will be mayor and have been forging ahead with the new term.
In Standard, council elected Alan Larsen to serve a second term as the village’s mayor.
“It’s always good. We have two new councillors that were elected in October. I think we have a good combination of new people and experience,” said Larsen.
In addition to Larsen, council is composed of veterans Ron Corbiell and Adam Sommerfeldt, and newcomers Martin Gauthier and Joe Pedersen.
Council, says Larsen, has been busy with a couple projects.
“Right now, we’re in the middle of rezoning some land in the area. We’re hoping to turn some industrial land into parkland and build a path,” said Larsen. “The big thing right now is snow removal, so we’re trying to get ahead of that.”
Council will soon start looking at the upcoming budget.
“The budget is coming up. We’re going to get started on that and see how things pan out,” said Larsen.
