Beard Bros. auction hair in battle against cancer

It’s almost becoming a spring tradition for Drumheller area resident Eric Neuman. The young man is once again growing his hair and beard out to help stop cancer.

This is the second year in a row where the young man has embraced the potential nested within his burly beard. Last year Neuman auctioned off his hair and beard to raise money for Relay for Life after he lost an aunt to cancer several years ago.

“Last year I did it myself and did an auction to shave my beard and hair however people wanted,” said Neuman. “It went really well and I raised quite a bit of money.”

Neuman spent the first few months of 2011 grooming a luxuriant beard. He then held a live auction, with the winner being able to cut Neuman’s hair in any fashion they chose. Neuman then had to spend the rest of the evening and the following day with his new hairdo.

“Last year I was transformed into a lion. People commented that I was the cowardly lion from Wizard of Oz,” said Neuman.

He raised over $1000 with his mane.

This year, he’s at it again, but this time he has a little help. Neuman will be joined by a few other burly faces.

“It started off with me and Chris Capobianco. Back in March we started growing our hair out and as staff and other friends came to town they decided it was a cool idea to join up,” said Neuman.

Each member of the Beard Bros. will be auctioning off their choice of beard and/or hair. The proceeds of the auction will go to Relay for Life.

The auction takes place in the foyer of the Badlands Community Facility on June 20 at 5:30 p.m.
