Residents will have a chance to see what Drumheller and the area has to offer in terms of services, sponsored by Victim Services at the Community Partnership Fair on Saturday, May 12, starting at 11:00 a.m.
The fair will have 40 to 50 different groups, representing a wide range of services and groups for residents to peruse.
“We want to bring different organizations and agencies together in one spot, so people can learn what Drumheller has to offer,” said Judy Nelson, chair of Big Country Victim Services.
The Calgary Police Service will be having another recruitment drive (they recruited several people at last year’s fair), the Fire Department will have a demonstration, EMS, Mental Health, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Girl Guides, just to name a few. The fair will also have a few activities for the kids to have some fun, such as face painting, puppet shows, and a bouncy castle.
There will be a free barbecue at noon and a performance by the Cat Country Cougar Hunters.
“It’s a lot of fun. There’s something for everybody, no matter how old they are,” said Nelson. “We have some fun things and some serious things, because serious things happen to everybody at some time or another.”
The Community Partnership Fair began four years ago. Big Country Victim Services came up with the idea after finding residents had difficulty finding the essential services they needed.
“We find, when we’re called out with the RCMP, when dealing with victims of crime, most people aren’t aware of what’s out there,” said Nelson. “People find they have a need, but don’t know what’s available. It’s a good opportunity to have these groups together and people learn what’s out there.”
Residents are encouraged to stop by the Drumheller Memorial Arena on Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to have some fun and see what is available in Drumheller.
