Schedule set for Heritage Ball Classic

A schedule has been set for the Heritage Ball Classic coming up June 17-19.

The tournament is a combination of the old and the new and honours the pastime of miners of the ages. Baseball was more than big in the valley, it was the sporting pastime of the men who toiled underground. Nary a warm weekend passed where the bases weren’t loaded.
On Friday night, June 17 the Hoodoo Campground will be hosting an exhibition hardball game. Former players from the valley are invited out to play in the game, which will feature historic uniforms and some Drumheller legends of the field.
The pregame events start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening, and at 7:30 p.m., the umpire will yell “Play Ball.”
This will be a five-inning game. Former ball players of all ages are invited to participate. If some have passed the age of hitting the field, they are wanted in the stands and in the bullpen. They are also looking for artifacts of the baseball history to be put on display during the event.
On Saturday, June 18 at 9 a.m., another tournament begins. This is an eight-team slo-pitch tournament. This too will pay homage to the valley’s history as each team will bear the name of a mine from the valley and they will customize their uniforms to fit the theme.
Throughout the weekend there will be a concession and a beer garden onsite as well as children’s activities and even a pancake breakfast. Local community organizations will benefit from the tournament.
The action continues at 9 a.m. on Sunday and is slated to wrap up at 6 p.m.
