Confessions of a Paperboy hits Rosebud Studio Stage
“Confessions of a Paperboy is an absolute delight,” explains director Paul F. Muir. “It’s not often that a script comes along that resonates so closely with events in your own childhood, and to work with an actor as agile and committed as Giovanni Mocibob is a joy. I was one of the many young paperboys who delivered the very first edition of the Edmonton Sun when it was first printed in the 1970s. Although my experiences were different than Christopher Columbus’, there were many things that happened in those early mornings that filled my heart and mind with awe and wonder. I wouldn’t trade those days for anything. Confessions of a Paperboy is a wonderfully whimsical and poignant play about how one young boy changes the world around him because he listens to that tiny little voice inside himself… and it’s a hoot! I have no doubt that everyone will get something great from this little play!”
Confessions of a Paperboy is a compelling story about the adventures of a ten-year-old boy named ChristopherColumbus who is a Morning World paperboy living near Heritage Park in Calgary, Alberta in the mid 70s. One day God starts speaking to him. What should he do? Why would God pick a ten-year-old boy to do his work? What possible reason does God have for letting Christopher share the fears, hopes and sorrows of his customers?
All of these big questions get pondered over by Christopher and then by the audience to hilarious and poignant conclusions. Confessions of a Paperboy is a one-man show starring Rosebud School of the Arts Graduate Giovanni Mocibob, who audiences will also see this summer in Rosebud Theatre’s Man of La Mancha as Sancho, Don Quixote’s faithful sidekick. “Gio” has also travelled across western Canada entertaining countless school children with Theatre for Young Audiences’ company Trickster Theatre.
Confessions of a Paperboy plays July 2 to August 30 at the Rosebud Theatre Studio Stage Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with performances at 4:30pm and Sundays at 5:00pm. Book your tickets at 1-800-267-7553 or go to www.rosebudtheatre.com for more information.
