Plans are underway for another big Canada Day in Drumheller.
The schedule has been set, chock full of lots of food, fun and music celebrating the 141st year of this great country we live in.
“We are lucky to be living in a country that provides so many opportunities to its people. We are able to explore so many different cultures right in our own country,” saidRay Telford, Economic Development Officer for the town of Drumheller.
The theme for this year’s parade is “Cool to be Canadian,” and the day begins with the Kinsmen pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Riverside Value Drug Market.
Then comes the parade through downtown from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The parade will form up across from St. Anthony’s at 9 a.m. to be judged.
Those with candy to give at the parade are asked not to throw it, as a safety measure.
Don’t get caught at the parade without a flag. Be sure to pick up a copy of The Drumheller Mail and show your flag found in the front section of the paper. When The Drumheller Mail float goes buy, show your pride by holding your flag up high. If a Drumheller Mail photographer snaps your picture, you may win a brand new bicycle.
The annual Canadian Tire Cruise in Car Show will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be a smokie on a bun barbecue, at Drumheller Co-op, put on by Greentree Mall merchants, to raise funds for Drumheller Palliative Care, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. a farmer’s market will be open at the Drumheller Memorial Arena and the Aquaplex will be having a toonie public swim from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Freson IGA will be having their beef on a bun meal immediately following the parade at noon in the IGA parking lot.
This event is sponsored by the Drumheller Rotary Club and Freson IGA.
The rest of the events will be held at John Anderson Park, starting with family activities from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and professional face painting from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Lothar the Magician will be performing from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by more family activities until 6:30 p.m. Then there will be the singing of “O Canada” and cutting of Canada’s birthday cake.
From 8 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. the Bixby Family will be playing, followed by country music sensation Jaydee Bixby at 9:30 p.m.
At 11 p.m. the fire works will begin and are best viewed from Centennial Park, located behind the World’s Largest Dinosaur.
