The Bash in the Badlands has shed its original venue to make its way to the top of the hill for the 2008 edition.
This is the fourth year that the Nacmine Hotel has presented the annual weekend of motorcycle fun. Organizer John Schofield says he expects a great crowd for the event, which goes from July 11 to 13 at the Stampede Barn.
To find the Stampede Barn from Drumheller, head south out of the valley on Highway 9. Once you leave the valley the turn off for the Stampede Barn is on your left, next to the Drumheller Institution.
Things get off to an early start on Friday night. Gypsy Wheeler, the blues band from Calgary will be taking to the stage Friday and Saturday night. They hit the stage at 9 p.m. Burgers, supplied by the Road House Saloon, will be on the menu.
Make sure to get there early to find the best spot to camp, because Saturday the fun starts all over again. Breakfast is served on Saturday and Sunday morning.
The highlight of Saturday is the pig roast. This has become a tradition of the Bash in the Badlands. George the pig will be expertly spit roasted by Chef Gordie Carter. Dinner is served at 5 p.m., and the band plays into the night.
Organizers have taken all steps to make the event runs smoothly. There is 24-hour security as well as on site first aid. There is also a shuttle service upon request.
The Bash in the Badlands has teamed up with the Morgan Jayne Project. Together they have produced the fourth annual Bash in the Badlands t-shirt.
The Morgan Jayne Project, which helps save babies in Honduras by stopping the spread of the HIV and AIDS through breast milk, is named after Drumheller business owner Fred Mackowecki’s daughter, who died of a rare condition at just 18 years of age.
She was enrolled to begin motorcycle lessons, and plans were being made to start riding.
The shirts commemorate “The Ride She Never Took.” All proceeds from the sale of t-shirts and bandanas will go towards the Morgan Jayne Project.
Weekend passes, include camping, a ticket to the pig roast, eligibility for door prizes, and more.
