Come late September, the downtown core will be flooded with music, art, activities for all ages, and best of all - it’s free.
Drumheller will be one of 38 communities this fall to participate in the Alberta Culture Days Celebration, formerly known as Arts Days, from September 28 to 30. The Drumheller Downtown Association, Equinox Arts and Cultural Society, the Canadian Badlands Passion Play Society and a few independant artists will join together to bring the event to life.
“There is an amazing amount of arts and talent in the valley, so Drumheller seems a fitting place to celebrate culture,” said Chris McLellan, regional development manager for Canadian Badlands.
Alberta Culture Days is part of the Canada-wide Culture Days celebrations. This will be the fifth year running for the event in the province.
“It’s a celebration of everything that is Alberta as it relates to culture,” said Beryl Cullum, who does communications for Alberta Culture.
Cullum said it is a chance for people to get together to showcase what our province is all about, our culture, our diversity, and our vibrancy.
Encouraging participation, the provincial government is supporting the celebration by dividing $375,000 among 38 communities to which will be for planning and coordinating the activities.
Cullum said out of all the proposals submitted, the designated sites that were chosen were based on their plan to provide fun, free, family-friendly activities. Proposals also needed to include a plan on how they were going to involve youth and partner with other organizations and include a multi-cultural component.
There is nothing absolutely set in stone as of yet said McLellan. However, now that they know they are a designated site, serious planning can begin happening.
