Soo....where you from? Norman, Bryony, Fergus, and Hamish Malvenan James and Margaret Beaty Drum, Scotland & Calgary, AB

Where are you from? (Norman) Drum, Scotland. It’s a tiny village in Kinross-shire, which is about 25 miles north of Edinburgh.

What brings you to Drumheller? (Norman) My great aunt emigrated here in 1913, so all her descendants live here in Canada. We still live in Scotland, but keep in close touch. We’re visiting the family here.

Are you going anywhere else after Drumheller? (Norman) We’re in the Calgary area visiting Margaret and James’ family, so we’ve been to Banff and came here. Then we’re going to Winnipeg to visit more family.

What do you think of Drumheller so far? (Bryony) The landscape is astonishing. (Norman) Things are so young here, but there’s still that ancient feeling about it.

Do you guys have any favourite dinosaurs? (Fergus) Triceratops. (Hamish) My favourite to play with was a T. rex. (Norman) They went through a phase when they were younger when they were absolutely besotted by dinosaurs.

If someone from Drumheller went to Drum, what would you suggest they see? (Bryony) For Drum,we’re a tiny village, so I would say nothing. (Norman) I would say Stirling Castle, which is nearby. It’s a medieval castle on a volcanic plug, so I would certainly send people there to see that. There’s Loch Levan, which is a nature reserve and there’s a castle. (Fergus) If you’ve seen Braveheart, you should go see the Wallace monument. (Norman) After Braveheart, they really had to develop the car park, because the tourist numbers swelled so much. There’s also Bannockburn, Stirling Bridge, and Edinburgh Castle.
