The Terrapins beat the Innisfail Cyclones with a score of 30-13 and have advanced to the next round of playoffs.

The Drumheller Terrapins are onto the next round of the post season after making short work of Innisfail last Saturday.
The Terrapins hosted the Cyclones in their first post-season game. They came out strong and quickly had the Cyclones on their heels.
Justin Sowerby was strong on his run, scoring three touchdowns. One more from Connor Enns put the Terrapins up 24-0 at the half. The Cyclones came back and scored two touchdowns and a conversion in the second half as the Terrapins roster lost s few players to other commitments.
“We lost some guys in the third quarter to go to hockey but some of the other players stepped up,” said coach Cory Miles.
Christian Ferro punched one more into the end zone to make the score 30-13.
Coach Miles is happy with the progress the team has made.  He said his runners played well and quarterback Ethan Jones played well in the pocket and held his own distributing the ball. On the other side of the ball, he was impressed with how strong the team stood at the line.
“Our defense was crazy good,” said Miles.
Another area of improvement on the field was the work the team has done to correct simple mistakes and costly penalties.
He sees some areas that need improvement.
“We seem to struggle on kick returns. We have problems getting on the short kicks, so we are going to focus on that,” said Miles. “Another is wrapping up the players, and just the basics, sometime they get the hit, but don’t wrap them up.
Another aspect is to continually work on the mental part of the game.
“We have to keep the focus, sometime we get a lead and then don’t play as hard,” said Miles.
This Saturday the Terrapins will be in action hosting Rocky Mountain House. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The peewee Tim Horton's Terrapins cheer after a pep-talk from guest coach CFL Calgary Stampeder's quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, but unfortuantely Sylvan Lake ended up taking the game. Mitchell and Stamps mascot Ralph the Dog were out to DVSS fields today to help show Calgary Stampeder's support for the Drumheller Community Football Association's, after the association suffered damage and losses when their buildings were vandalized in September. Mitchell started playing football when he was in grade five in Katey, Texas.

The Senior Girls Dynos Volleyball team at Drumheller Valley Secondary School has been together for just a month, and the team’s coach has noticed a lot of improvements over that time.
“I’m happy with the progress they’re making,” said coach Dawn Sullivan, “and look forward to continued progress.”
The team played well and had a great match with Trochu Wednesday night, which included a long rally that had spectators on the edge of their seats and had players on both sides working extra hard to keep the ball in play.
“You do get tired,” said grade 12 team veteran Raine McDougald, “but excited about getting the ball over the net.”
Fellow veteran team mate Zaynah Chomas agrees the adrenaline really kicks in during a long volley, and adds it’s a feeling of relief - “whew, it’s over”, when the play is finally finished.
McDougald and Chomas are two of the three returning veteran players to the Senior Girls Dynos this season, and say they enjoy working with their new team members  to help them learn the ropes while having fun on the court.
McDougald has been playing volleyball since grade 7 after her Mom, who always enjoyed volleyball, got her interested in the sport.
Chomas started playing volleyball in grade 8. She became interested after watching others play the  sport, and decided to give it a try.
“I just love the experience, and I love the sport.”
Official team practices are scheduled for three times a week at the DVSS gym.
