The Terrapins beat the Innisfail Cyclones with a score of 30-13 and have advanced to the next round of playoffs.
The Drumheller Terrapins are onto the next round of the post season after making short work of Innisfail last Saturday.
The Terrapins hosted the Cyclones in their first post-season game. They came out strong and quickly had the Cyclones on their heels.
Justin Sowerby was strong on his run, scoring three touchdowns. One more from Connor Enns put the Terrapins up 24-0 at the half. The Cyclones came back and scored two touchdowns and a conversion in the second half as the Terrapins roster lost s few players to other commitments.
“We lost some guys in the third quarter to go to hockey but some of the other players stepped up,” said coach Cory Miles.
Christian Ferro punched one more into the end zone to make the score 30-13.
Coach Miles is happy with the progress the team has made. He said his runners played well and quarterback Ethan Jones played well in the pocket and held his own distributing the ball. On the other side of the ball, he was impressed with how strong the team stood at the line.
“Our defense was crazy good,” said Miles.
Another area of improvement on the field was the work the team has done to correct simple mistakes and costly penalties.
He sees some areas that need improvement.
“We seem to struggle on kick returns. We have problems getting on the short kicks, so we are going to focus on that,” said Miles. “Another is wrapping up the players, and just the basics, sometime they get the hit, but don’t wrap them up.
Another aspect is to continually work on the mental part of the game.
“We have to keep the focus, sometime we get a lead and then don’t play as hard,” said Miles.
This Saturday the Terrapins will be in action hosting Rocky Mountain House. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
