Saints start season with wins

Basketball is back in full swing at St. Anthony’s School with the junior high teams hitting the court.
    Tryouts are complete and teams are selected.  The boys and girls Junior B Grade 7/8 teams have been on the court with some positive results.
    The team hosted Delia to open the season in the first game in the Big Country League last Thursday, December 7. Despite Delia being a Junior A team with Grade 9 players, the Junior B Girls Saints played well and won 21-17, with some strong defensive efforts.
    The boys were next up and they were in for a battle, but held on to win 34-33.
    The teams are back in action this weekend hosting their first tournament of the season. The Junior B Boys will be on the court in tournament play Friday, while the girl’s team will be playing Saturday.


DVSS junior high teams hosts successful tourney

This weekend saw the Grade 8/9 Girls and 7/8 Boys team host teams for an early season tournament.

On Friday the girls opened up the tournament defeating Hugh Sutherland from Carstairs 39 to 11. Saturday Afternoon, the junior girls played a hard fought game against CMJHS Cougars of Strathmore, However, the Girls came up short and lost 41-33.

In the Girls last game of the Tournament for the girls, they played the Olds Koinonia Royals. The Girls played through foul trouble and a shortened bench to come out on top with a 58-48 victory, and to end the tournament with a 2-1 record.

The 7/8 boys team played two games on Friday night. In their first game they defeated PCA 45-30, and then Three Hills 45-39. Saturday Morning the Grade 7/8 boys faced the much larger CMJHS Cougars from Strathmore. The boys played hard, but suffered their first loss of the season losing 32-21.

In the Dynos last game of the tournament, they went up against Dr. Elliot from Linden, defeated them 45-31, to end the tournament with a 3-1 one record.

DVSS Basketball is back in full swing as the junior high teams hit the court last Thursday, December 1.
    DVSS junior high basketball got off to a good start at the DVSS gymnasium. First to step onto the court, was the Junior A girls. The team played well and went on to defeat Trochu 35-5. Gabby Thomson led the Dynos in scoring with a game high 25 points.
    The Junior B boys Dynos were also on the court versus Trochu, and they went on to a 47-14 victory.  Jake Davis led the scoring for the Dynos with 18 points, Ben Messom had 12 points.
