The DVSS senior girls basketball team kicked off the season with a home tournament.
The Dynos hosted eight competitive teams to get a feel for the season, and while the scores were not in the Dynos’ favour, coach Jennifer Raugust likes the progress her team is making.
“The girls did pretty well for their first showing, but there is plenty of room for improvement,” she said.
She has a young team with only one Grade 12 and four Grade 11’s returning. The remaining seven players are playing in their first year on the senior team.
“With having so many new people it takes time to calm the nerves and for a team to find their groove,” she said. “The girls I do have from last year are good leaders so I feel like the team has a good vibe.”
She likes the positivity her team is showing, even in the face of adversity.
“For the most part, the girls had a positive attitude throughout the weekend,” she said, “but we understand that with having a newer group it will take practice to iron out the bigger wrinkles. As long as the girls continue to work hard for me and keep their chins up I think we will have success.”
This weekend the senior girls are in Acme for tournament play.
