Jays Fever

IMG 6025With a 5-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles in their wild card game, the Toronto Blue Jays were once again christened Canada’s team as they move on to face the Texas Rangers in the divisional series. The fever has spread from the 416 area code all the way across the country including down into the valley. To show their support, staff and students at St. Anthony’s put on their blue shirts to cheer on the Jays. The Blue Jays were on the field Thursday, October 6, and are back tonight, Friday, October 7.

Dynos play Acme after back-to-back tournaments

The DVSS senior girls Dynos battled it out with Acme and lost with a final score of 25-21 and 25-23.
The Dynos hosted the Acme Redmen in league play on Wednesday, September 28.
Head Coach Erica Crocker  was happy with the team’s effort.
“Our girls suffered from fatigue from two weeks of intense training, league games, and back-to-back tournaments,” said coach Croker.  “All things considered, the girls played a great game with fantastic offensive work from our middle hitter Mikaela Koustrup.  She had collectively scored 7 kills over the course of the game, and was blocking Acme’s power hitters.”
“Eden Hilchey also delivered an aggressive performance with 5 kills and shutting down Acme’s offense. Defensive performances by our captains Makenna Lutz and Nikki Thompson kept us alive in the game, which ultimately set up our offensive line effectively.”
Crocker said they were pleased with the Dynos performance.
“My co-coach, Carmen Spitzer, and I are excited for the girls to get some rest this weekend. They’ve certainly earned it,” she said.
The Dynos’ next game is Wednesday, October 5 at 5:30 p.m. It is another home game against Prairie Christian Academy.

Terrapins play hard, stand tall

Drumheller’s Pee Wee Terrapins played another hard game on Saturday September 24 in Olds ending with a score of 16-6 for the Huskies.
Head Coach Thomas Laffin said, “We started the game strong with an interception by Ben Messom and followed that with our only touchdown of the game by Haydn Jones.”
According to Laffin the scoreboard definitely did not reflect their gameplay.

Having started so strong, they still came together well in the second half but Olds never gave the Titans a chance to score.
“We moved the ball well in the second half but were not able to get it in the end zone.  In the game of football sometimes it doesn’t go your way but the Terrapins stood tall.” Laffin said,  “With two weeks to heal and work on our game I see the second half of our season going much different.”
The Titans next home game is Saturday, October 8, at 11 a.m. against Stettler.
