Dragons fans came out in droves to support the great work the Jeff Hendricks Memorial Scholarship fund has done in the last four seasons.
The last Drumheller Dragons home game before the Christmas break has traditionally been in dedication to the Jeff Hendricks Memorial Scholarship Fund. Hendricks was a former Drumheller Falcon junior hockey player, who passed away in 2006. The fund established in his name has been used annually to help Drumheller Dragons, and other community hockey players with their education through a scholarship, and also sponsor a youngster to attend the Drumheller Dragons Summer Hockey School, as well as other endeavours.
The game, on December 19, which included a silent auction raised about $3,500 for the fund.
The silent auction was a hit. One big item, 14 tickets to Calgary Flames game, using the Midfield Supply Sky Suite went for $1,750 alone.
At the game, they took time out to remember Hendricks as well as to make some presentations. Kelly and Heather Colberg accepted the Jeff Hendricks Memorial Scholarship Trophy for their son Trent. The former captain of the Drumheller Dragons was last year’s recipient of the flagship award.
Miles Severn, on behalf of the fund presented Drumheller Dragons trainer Marty Palechuk with a defibrillator for the Drumheller Memorial Arena.
At the intermission Derrick Cullum learned he was the member of the Junior Dragons selected to go to the Dragons Summer School.
Another special presentation was made at the game. Marty Weymark, who has dedicated his time and efforts to build the scholarship fund, was presented with a plaque of appreciation for his work.
