The Bantam Titans have come out of the gate swinging with a strong line-up and potential for a strong season.
The team played its first game of the season on Saturday, September 4 in Red Deer versus Huntington Hills. While they were on the losing end of a high scoring 44-32 battle there were some bright spots, especially against what could be one of the strongest teams in the league.
“It is shaping up like it is going to be a really good year,” said coach Paul Redmond.
Grade 9 running back Spencer Fournier led the team with four touchdowns, in his first year as a Titan. Tanner Hedstrom also scored for the Titans. The league plays with a two point convert rule, and the Titans only converted on one of their tries. This will be a focus in practice.
On the defensive end, Redmond was impressed with the team as they were able to shut down Huntington Hills’ running game. The Red Deer team’s passing game was strong however.
Redmond says they are bolstered by nine returning Grade 9 players and a little more size than in previous years.
“We are able to put the proper talent in the right spaces.
The Bantam Titans have a bye this weekend; however will be on their home field at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 18 to take on Strathmore.
