The Senior Titans are Provincial playoff bound, after dispatching Canmore on Saturday in Calgary.
On Saturday, October 29, the Titans and the Wolverines met at Shouldice Stadium. The Titans were coming off a bye week, which allowed them to heal but also left a bit of rust.
“We started off rough, making a few mistakes, we weren’t seeing the field well, we were missing tackles, we were missing blocks,” said head coach Ken Fournier. “The boys cleaned it up, a big part of that was a play sparked by Teigan Sattler with a sack-strip- fumble-recovery-touchdown. It was kind of the unicorn of defensive plays.”
After a back-and-forth first two quarters the team was fired up.
“We came out in the second half with more intensity, and that seemed to help us, and we took it away from there,” said Fournier.
The Titans went on to a 35-6 win. This put them in the first round of the Tier IV provincial playoffs. Before that, they have another bye week where they will watch to see the outcome of Taber- Claresholm. They will host the losing team.
“We are trying to schedule another exhibition game because we don’t want another bye week,” said Fournier.
It has been a strong season for the Titans, where they have both been clearly the best team on the field, while others have been out-and-out battles.
“As far as growth for the entire team, it has been a great season. We have had guys contributing on offence, defence and special teams, and it is not just been one or two guys, everybody is contributing,” said Fournier. “We’re in good shape, I think we just have to clean up. The teams we have played are coming at us every time with something different, which is great. Our guys have been able to adapt, which is a big step forward.”
