The Drumheller U15 boys are provincial baseball champions after beating Edmonton’s South Jasper Place 12-0 Sunday.
Drumheller hosted the tournament at the Newcastle diamonds starting on Friday, where they beat the Beaumont BoSox and won 13-3. Then they played Round Hill on Saturday, winning 14-3 and advancing to the semi-final game at noon on Sunday. There, they beat a High Prairie team which was still amped from a comeback win on Saturday night. Logan Manning pitched a no hitter and Drumheller won 10-0.
They went on to the final against the Edmonton team from South Jasper Place. They team had another strong pitching effort from Noah Ward, who threw a one-hitter to allow Drumheller to roll to another lopsided score of 12-0.
Coach Lyle Caweizel says strong pitching and timely hitting was the key to their success.
“The boys really put it all together this final weekend,” said coach Lyle Caweizel. “We didn’t have an error and only allowed six runs in four games.”
“Winning the gold medal was a fantastic way to finish the season. For some of the boys, it was their second championship this year after winning hockey gold in the Provincial B Bantam tournament.”
