Motocross championship this weekend

The hills will be humming with the buzz of motocross this long weekend as the Drumheller Outdoor Vehicle Association hosts the DORVAMX Championship from July 30 to August 1.

The sixth and seventh races of the Alberta Motorsports Association Championship series will be played out Sunday and Monday at DORVA’s track after a day of practice Saturday.

Organizer Brad Peake said motocross racers from Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan will compete in the two competitions and participants will be itching to hit the dirt after a rainy couple of weeks.

“We had a lot of guys come out this last week with the weather. The numbers for the weekend are looking good,” said Peake.

He says the track will be closed this week as volunteers prepare for the weekend, which has a favourable forecast.

After practice Saturday, July 30, some of the AMSA pro riders will be putting on a race school. To qualify you need to sign in for the morning practice and a draw will be made at intermission. The riders will be grouped with others in their respective classes.

Practice starts 9:30 am Saturday and 8:00 am Sunday and Monday, with races beginning those days at 9:00 am.
