The NGC Peewee Raptors are league champions after defeating Claresholm in two straight games.
The Raptors defeated Medicine Hat in the semifinals and on Friday, March 11, were in Claresholm in game 1 of the championship playoff series. “In the first game we were down 3-0 after the first period. They managed to find a second gear and won the game 7-4,” said coach Lyle Cawiezel. Kyle Gridley had three goals, Zachary Cawiezel had two goals and an assist, ands James Zuccatto and Tucker Hudson each had one. For game 2, the Raptors were back on home ice. The Raptors came out strong and were leading 3-1 down the stretch, but Clareholm put the pressure on making it 3-2. “It made the last couple of minutes really interesting but we managed to hold on and won it overall,” said Cawiezel. Kyle Gridley has a goal and two assists, James Zuccatto had a goal and an assist, and Daxton Mulgrew had a goal. Nikolas Zuccatto held back 27 shots. Coach Cawiezel is proud of his team. “They worked hard all yearlong and they deserved that win, “he said. It looks like to could be a strong season next year as about half of team moves on to bantam, leaving a strong core.
