The Titans are one step closer to the provincial finals after a come from behind victory over the Canmore Wolverines in the quarterfinal.
Last Saturday, November 13, the Titans were in Canmore to battle the Wolverines.
“These are the kinds of games you want to prepare for. I kind of expected we would jump out to a big start with our no huddle offense. It is something we have been working on for the last few weeks and it worked really well for us,” said Coach Ken Fournier.
And while they jumped out to a strong start, going up 21-0 in the fist quarter, the Titans found themselves playing catch-up.
“We started making some mistakes and, the guys got over confident. We turned it over at midfield and Canmore marched it in,” said coach Fourier.
This shifted momentum and saw the Wolverines close the gap to 21-12 at the half.
The Wolverines continued with energetic play and took a 26-21 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Titans responded.
“We has a good couple big drives put together, and Aiden Enns had a couple big runs,” said coach Fournier.
The Titans came back and won 37-26.
At this level, coach Fournier says is comes down to preparation and focus. A good team can capitalize on a small mistake and this is what happened. Two penalties in the first half allowed Canmore to continue drives which ended up scoring. He says the Titans have to focus on doing this right and preparing.
“These guys will have to reload. These teams aren’t going anywhere and they have nothing to lose,” said Fournier. “Those team are playing to their fans and every play counts. Nobody is going anywhere until that final whistle.
The Southern Alberta Final is this Saturday in Claresholm, and it is another familiar post-season name, Willow Creek. They were ranked second in the province heading into the post season, the Titans were 7th. Willow Creek beat Bow Valley to make it to the south final.
“I try to keep a close eye on them. They (Willow Creek) are running a powerful offense, and they are able to take deep shots down the field. So our coverage has to be good. We have to get our best defensive game out of our guts,” said coach Fournier.
Game time is 1 p.m. this Satuday in Claresholm.
