The DVSS girl’s rugby team is still working on improving their game, and continues to gain popularity.
About 100 fans came out to DVSS field to cheer on the Dynos as they took on Bow Valley School last Thursday. While they lost 31-0, coach Darren Jones was impressed with the improvement on the field.
The DVSS rugby team had about 100 come out for their first home game last Thursday. They are off to Chestermere on May 7 for more rugby action.
“It came in waves. We were able to hold them off for the first quarter with no scoring at all,” said coach Jones. “They had a couple breaks and got a couple quick tries on us.”
He is grateful for the support from fans and from players.
“There was a great turnout, it was more than I could have imagined,” said Jones. “There are a couple girls who were thinking about playing, and now it sounds like we’ll have a few more joining after seeing what it is like.”
Already the DVSS team has attracted players from Drumheller, as well as Morrin and Delia.
“We are up to 23 girls, and we’ll keep as many as we’ll take,” said Jones.
The Dynos were to play Rundle at home on Monday, but the game was cancelled. Tonight (Wednesday, May 7), they are off to Chestermere.
