Drumheller volleyballers named all-stars

All-star volleyball players from all over the area descended on Three Hills last week.
Among those who went were three players from Drumheller were named to the all star team for senior girls volleyball.
Grade 12 students Brigitte Doolittle and Bonnie Courtenay from Drumheller Valley Secondary School (DVSS) and Jennifer Drouin from the St. Anthony’s School Sabres were chosen for the team.
“We’re showcasing some of the best players in our zone and honouring their efforts,” said Dawn Sullivan, coach for the DVSS Dynos.
The all-star team is composed of 24 senior girls from the area. The girls are divided into two teams of 12. Organizers ask for players from each team and coaches are often hard pressed to choose just one or two of their players.
“Brigitte was the setter for the team, which means she controlled the offense of the team. She is a really outstanding player. Bonnie has a serve that’s pretty deadly and her attack is great,” said Sullivan. “In my books though, all five [Grade 12] girls deserved to go.”
Drouin was chosen for her role as the most experienced member of the Sabres.
“She’s played volleyball throughout school, and is very dedicated and passionate about the game,” said Marie Hirsch, coach of the Sabres.
Volleyball season ended last weekend. The Dynos finished their season with a berth at zones two weekends ago, while the Sabres finished third in their league.    All-star volleyball players from all over the area descended on Three Hills last night.
