Dinosaur half adds costume challenge

The Dinosaur Half is just around the corner and organizers are hoping to bring out the fun side of the fun run.

This year they are introducing the Five by Five Team Challenge and it is all about spirit.

The Five by Five Team Challenge is where teams of five will take on the 5K course.

“It is a five member competition and it is not about speed, it is about promoting an interest in fitness,” said Colin Kloot, one of the organizers of the event. “The competition will be based solely on costume dress.”

This means it is time to clear out the closet and find your best frills, and invite your friends to take part. In fact Kloot encourages those in the 5k and 10K  to try out the run in costume. Great prizes for the best dressed team will be offered.”

The 2012 Dinosaur Half will be held Sunday, September 9. This event benefits the Badlands Community Facility and in its lifespan has contributed about $19,000 to the facility.

This year Kloot says they are down by about 100 entries over last year in all the events combined, however the 10k intermediate run is actually up. He would love to see more local runners involved in the race, and the five kilometre run is a great way for someone who is interested in fitness to get on track. And, of course, a silly costume wouldn’t hurt either.

There is still time to register for all events. Simply go to www.dinosaurhalf.com to sign up. Those wishing to sign up for the Five by Five Challenge, either if you are already registered or a  new participant, send an email to dinosaurhalf@gmail.com.
