Downtown Drumheller is planning a family fun day in August and want to bring some highflying entertainment to the core.
John Shoff is spearheading a campaign to bring freestyle motocross come August 18 and is looking for a few supporters.
Shoff learned about McMorran FMX (Freestyle Motocross). The group performed at the Three Hills Car Show earlier this year and has appeared at the Calgary Stampede. Their unique freestyle motocross show sees them vaulting themselves into the sky pulling off daredevil feats.
“It is a family of two motocross guys that do this. They supply the ramps,” said Shoff. “They will be flying higher than the buildings, it should be pretty cool.”
He said they are able to set up on one block in downtown Drumheller and be able to do three shows. Shoff said spectators could get nice and close to the action. The shows will be free for the public.
He has started an online fundraising campaign in order to garner support for the show. He has received some funding from the Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce, however there is about $3,500 more needed to bring the show to downtown Drumheller.
He has stared an Indiegogo website to raise the funds. Indiegogo allows users to create a fundraising campaign and it is easy for supporters to donate. This is the same site that was used to raise more than $600,000 for the “Lets Give Karen -The bus monitor- H Klein A Vacation!” It also allows contributors to add perks as incentives for donating.
So far they have raised about $200. The campaign is slated to go until July 31 meaning there is more than a month to go to raise the funds.
This will be a part of a whole Family Fun Day planned for Saturday, August 18.
“There will a bunch of things, a street magician, clowns, face painters, a bouncy castle,” said Shoff, adding the entire event will be free to the public. He encourages other groups or businesses to get involved with the event.
