The Drumheller Pure Venom U-19 girls softball team has had a great season so far, considering they moved up a tier just last year.
“They’re doing quite well, they’re playing some more challenging teams this year but have still managed some great wins,” said Brent Sands, Head Coach of the Drumheller Pure Venom.
The team came away with a third place in a tournament in Strathmore on May 12 and 13.
Most recently they had a 10-9 win, on Thursday May 31, in Calgary, against the YFML Edwards team.
“It was a nail biter down to the end,” said Sands.
In total, for round one and two, the team has won seven games and only lost two.
Sands said the season has also been somewhat slow due to weather.
However, that doesn’t stop the Venom from focusing on their goals this season.
“Their skills were quite developed last season, but we are focusing on a lot more hitting and pitching this year. Our pitching has always been quite strong but we want to keep it that way,” said Sands.
All their hard work will pay off when it comes time to play provincials in Leduc from June. 30 to July 2. Last year, during provincials, they pulled away with a silver medal in the U-19 tier.
“The girls are doing great, and playing in the higher tier enables everyone on the team to play,” said Sands.
