Titans bounce back for win over Strathmore

The Senior Titans proved they could move the ball last Saturday as they redeemed themselves for their first win of the season over Strathmore.

The Titans faced the Spartans at home. A healthy crowd of fans cheered on the Titans as they marched their way to a 34-10 victory. This follows on a stagnate offensive performance against Olds the previous weekend, and brought redemption to the squad.
“It was our ground game, we could effectively move the ball, and when we do that we can control the clock and get points up,” said head coach Ken Fournier. “As long as we have the ball in our hands they can’t score.”
He said the strong performance went both ways.
The defense did a heck of a job getting the ball back to us as soon as they could,” said Fournier. “There were a lot of great drives on defense, I think there were four sacks, it was good to see.”
He said the defence shut down Strathmore’s ground game, and the Spartans had to resort to passing. They could not sustain themselves in the air.
One thing Fournier would like to see is the team cleaning up penalties that could have been costly.
“In the second half it could have cost us. If we made a few more mistakes, it could have ended up on the scoreboard,” said Fournier. “It is good to play with passion, but it’s supposed to be controlled aggression.”
Soon enough the fall gridiron will be covered with frost, but last Saturday the late summer weather played a role.
“Heat is a pretty big factor. We tried to get everyone in because you get exhausted pretty quick, and guys cramp up,” said Fournier.
In week two of the season, the Titans found themselves dropping one spot to ninth place in the province for tier four teams.
The team is out of league action this coming week, but will be heading to Taber Friday night for exhibition play.
“It means we can work on some plays that we have been going over in practice. Our passing game still needs work,” said Fournier.
