Pure Venom wins league, provincial silver

The Drumheller Pure Venom Girls Bantam softball team wrapped up the season Monday night in Calgary and what a season it was, being crowned league champions and earning provincial silver.

Pure Venom has had an incredible season. The team played 29 games this year, winning 26 and only losing 3.
This past weekend the Pure Venom team entered into the Midget “D” Provincials.  The girls went 4-0 in the round robin on Friday and Saturday.  This put the girls in the semi-finals on Sunday morning.  The girls won this game to put them into the finals against Vermillion. This game was a true test for both teams, they were each other’s toughest competition.
The game came down to the final inning and bat, but the girls ended up losing by one run.  This gave the Pure Venom the silver medal in Midget “D” Provincials.
Parents, coaches and fans are extremely proud of these girls considering they played up a level this weekend in order to have enough girls to play!
On Monday the girls travelled to Calgary to try to finish off their league for the year.  The team has played out of the Calgary League all season in order to be able to play.  This took a great deal of commitment from both the girls and their parents.
The girls played Calgary South Bow 3 and after a hard weekend at Provincials they found the strength to battle through all the scrapes and bruises to pull out the win and be named Calgary League Champions.      Congratulations Pure Venom on an amazing season.
