Condolences to the family of Herman Hendrick Ballast

May 16, 1943 - February 14, 2025

Herman Ballast passed away suddenly Friday, Feb 14, 2025 at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB.

Herman was born May 6, 1943, in the Netherlands, and immigrated to Canada with his parents and brother in 1953, settling in Dominion City, Manitoba. He attended a diesel mechanic program at Manitoba Technical Institute which began his career working with farm equipment as a mechanic/parts technician.

In 2007, Herman and Arlene, his wife of nearly 57 years moved to Drumheller, AB., where he continued his career as a parts technician until he retired in 2019. After retirement, he enjoyed restoring old tractors, stamp collecting, building model trains, and compiling old family photographs into albums for his children.

Herman is survived by his wife, Arlene, 2 sons, David (Carolyn), Daniel (Peggy), daughter, Jennifer (Dane), grandchildren, Dylan, Katerina, Brittanie, Ashley, Colby, and Nash. Great grandson, Conner, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandmother Sijtje Klok, parents, Harm and Lijntje Ballast. Brother Armand, in-laws, Robert and Lily Duncan, brothers in law, Glen and Clifford. Daughter Nancy, grandson, Braeden, and granddaughter Caitlyn.

A celebration of Herman’s life will be held on Saturday May 17, 2025, at 2pm, at Knox United Church. 195 3rd Avenue East, Drumheller, Alberta
