BREWITT
Diana Winifred
July 1, 1933 - September 23, 2023
Diana was born in Edmonton; her childhood years were spent in both Edmonton and Prince Albert. After graduating she worked odd jobs in Edmonton, eventually deciding to enter the nursing profession. She moved to Vancouver to begin her training, deciding after a few months that is wasn’t the career for her, she dropped out. At loose ends as to what to do and after a casual conversation with her dad where she flippantly said she was going to move to the US to which he replied you’ll never do that. She saw that as some kind of a challenge, so she applied for her green card and landed a job with a life insurance company in Santa Barbara, California. Her sister Sheila joined her and bought a house and spent 7 years there. She moved back to Calgary and raised her son Karl there, working at several different businesses. At one time transferring to Barry, Ontario with one of the businesses she worked for. Not really enjoying it there, she came back to Calgary and once again went to work at an insurance company where she stayed until she decided to retire. A visit to a girlfriend she had worked with whose husband was working on a ranch in the Hand Hills brought her to the Delia area. Deciding she couldn’t afford to retire in Calgary, she bought a small “fixer upper” house in Delia, never once suspecting what the next chapter of her life would hold. She embraced small town living and became active in all the activities, the senior’s group, local church and card parties. She was a member of the Eastern Star and formed many close relationships with her Eastern Star sisters. Serving as Worthy Matron for one year. Singing in the church choir she met a local farmer and as they say the rest is history. After eloping they lived in her house in Delia for a year. Then this city girl with enthusiasm and child-like wonder became a country girl and embraced all things country. For the next 25 years she lived happily in her little “House on the Prairie”, with her husband Don and her faithful dogs first Winnie and then Cocoa. Enjoying the rhythm of the seasons and the various wildlife the prairies bring. Wherever she went she brought joy and LAUGHTER and cultivated friendships.
