Morrin, Alberta
- November 8, 2017
Pincher Creek, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Don passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the age of 80. Don’s day job was working for ICBC for more than thirty years, but his main passion was hockey. Spending most of his early years playing in the senior leagues of Alberta where he was known as “Boomer”, for both his toughness and goal scoring. To put money and potato salad on the table for his young family, he worked as a body-man for auto body shops across the province. Relocating to Cranbrook in the early 70’s, he was a primary “defense” fixture in the East Kootenay’s Oldtimers hockey league well into his 60’s, played on the VOT (Very Old Timers) team and finally hung up the skates in his late 60’s after a number of years of refereeing minor hockey. Don had a huge love for the sport of golf. Many, many hours were spent at his beloved Cranbrook Golf Course, on the annual Osoyoos pilgrimage and touring courses on his snowbird drive to Mazatlan, Mexico. Don was also an avid fisherman with some of his happiest days out on the lake with his wife Joan. Nothing made Don prouder than to talk about his boys. There was never a doubt as to the love that he had for his three sons. Don is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Trent and Nicole of Tunis, and Barry and Gladys of Frank and by his sister, Esme of Wetaskiwin and his brother Reg (Diane) of Westville, Nova Scotia. He is survived by his grandchildren Bret, Dallas, J.T. and Tessa. And his great-grandchild Haedyn. Don is predeceased by his wife Joan, his son Randy, and his parents. We will all miss his infectious smile and kind heart. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
