Marion Zern passed away peacefully at Drumheller Continuing Care Centre on August 14, 2017 at age of 101 years. She is lovingly remembered by daughter, Darlene Raketti (Ray) of Drumheller, grandchildren Starr, Gail, Sandra, Glenda, Teresa and Kevin, great grandchildren John, Justin, Joey, Kelly, Amelia, Addy, Chantel, Meagan and Sheldon, and great great grandchildren, Carson and Jack. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Ruby Zern of Calgary, Alberta, sister Doreen Harris (Orlo) of Calgary, Alberta, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marion is predeceased by her husband Reinhold, son Gary Reinhold, brother Donald Connell, sisters Lillian Brace and Tressa Rosenau, and her parents George and Lyda Connell. Marion was born at the Connell Homestead near Chinook, Alberta on January 30, 1916. She married Reinhold Zern at the Connell farm on June 24, 1941. Reinhold and Marion settled on their farm near Rosebud, Alberta. Darlene was born in 1942 and Gary 1944. The family attended the Rosebud Baptist Church most of their years on the farm. Gary was killed in an accident in 1971. The farm was sold in 1974 and they moved into to Drumheller. They were associated with the Drumheller Fellowship Baptist Church. Marion and Reinhold helped organize the Pioneer Center where Marion served as the secretary for many years. She took many prizes for her handiwork in local competitions. Marion was especially gifted in quilting. Her husband Reinhold passed away in 1985. Marion was baptized on May 5, 1996 at the Fellowship Baptist Church. She lived in her home until 2007 when she entered the Sunshine Lodge. In 2015 she moved to Drumheller Long Term Care. Marion Zern was laid to rest beside her Husband and Son at Mountain View Gardens Memorial Gardens 1605 - 100 St. SE, (17 Ave. SE at Garden Road), Calgary, Alberta.
