LOWTHER
Benjamin Robert
August 22, 1939 - June 16, 2017
Benjamin Robert Lowther passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16th, 2017 with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born in Wayne, Alberta on August 22, 1939. Ben or
Robert, as he was called at home, loved the Drumheller Valley area and regularly visited his childhood hometown, East Coulee, Alberta and the surrounding area. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and worked across the country, specializing in mining and oil sands extraction. In 1974, he was living and working in Edmonton when he met his wife Erica on the ski hill in Jasper. They shared a passion for skiing deep powder and sailboat racing. They spent 43 years together moving often and travelling lots. They had three amazing children, Pamela, Benjamin John and Ryan, along the way who learned from Ben that family always comes first. He spent all of his extra time supporting his children in their various activities. Finally, once the children left home, Ben was able to retire and Ben and Erica moved to Kelowna, where he started working on his own lifelong dream of building a sailboat. Ben and Erica spent the following years sailing, skiing, travelling and spending lots of time with their seven grandchildren. Ben/Robert will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and all of their families. A celebration of life is being planned at his home in Kelowna on August 19, 2017. Please contact his family if you would be interested in attending.
