It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alfred John Durnie of Drumheller, on September 16th, 2016 after silently battling multiple myeloma for three years. He turned 58 the day he passed away. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou, daughter Stephanie (Tim), son Ryan (Jennifer) and his grandchildren Misha, Rex, Avery and
Jamie as well as his mother Maxine and his four siblings Lorraine, Carmen, Darwin and Michael. Alf was predeceased by his father Jack Durnie. Alf was born in the Drumheller Valley and spent most of his life there raising his family and pursuing his many passions including a lifelong career in the field of plumbing, gas fitting and private sewage. His work as the Administrator and Chief Inspector for Private Sewage for the Province of Alberta gave himself and his family great pride. Alf was also an extremely active member in organizations across his industry as both a speaker and teacher, including the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) for National Canadian Plumbing, Septic Tanks, and Private Sewage Codes, and most recently an International North American Rainwater Harvesting and Greywater Re-use Standards committee. Alf was a plumber and a teacher who touched many lives and left a lasting legacy. In his private life Alf displayed a great love for children and a lifelong passion for gardening, photography, cooking and travelling with his wife Mary Lou. His calm demeanor, his patience and his determination earned him a reputation as a man who could achieve anything he set his mind to. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday September 22, at the Badlands Community Facility, 80 Veterans Way, Drumheller AB.
