Mary Joanne Scheelar (or MJ or Mary-Jo), 60, of Drumheller (formerly of Strome and Calgary, AB), passed away after a short but very brave battle with cancer on June 27, 2015 in Red Deer, AB. Mary-Jo was retired and lived in Drumheller with her daughter and family as she sought the PERFECT place to retire. She loved spending time with her family and friends, enjoyed a good adventure and a good pair of knitting needles. Prior to her illness, she was planning an epic trip to Newfoundland to celebrate her 60th birthday. Over the years, she could be found at the Farmers Markets with her daughter in Drumheller and surrounding areas. Mary-Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Cecil, and four brothers Andy Scheelar, Lyle Scheelar, Kevin Scheelar and recently Alan Scheelar. She is survived by her daughter Tara (Chris) Schellenberg, granddaughter Jaxcin Schellenberg, grandson Roarke Schellenberg all of Drumheller as well as her brothers Lorne (Linda) Scheelar and Rick Scheelar and sisters Kathy (Tony) Scheelar, Theresa (Roy) Berg and Maureen (Paul) Paine. Mary-Jo was a great friend to many and will be missed by them as well. A Celebration of Life will be held July 11, 2015 at the Midland Community Hall in Drumheller, AB at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and doctors at the Drumheller Health Centre and the Red Deer Regional Hospital for their care and support during her final days.
