MARTIN, Anne Martha
November 10, 1920 - September 29, 2011
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, aunt and good friend, to join her lord in heaven on September 29, 2011. Anne was born on the family farm, south of Hanna, in the Dalkeith district, on November 10, 1920, to parents Fred and Martha Doering. As a young girl Anne was always busy in the indoor and outdoor activities of the farm. Growing up, Anne became very handy with her hands taking up sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking and gardening. As she grew older Anne became quite involved in many community and church activities. She was noted for her ice cream buckets full of cookies for the grand children, German dishes and Mrs. Martin pickles. Anne loved to spend time among family and friends. She
would never turn down a good card game of Whist, crib, five hundred, runs and straights, etc. In later years, she still enjoyed crocheting but took up doing puzzles and word search activity books in her spare time. Anne had a great sense of humour. She could take a joke as well as hand one out. Annie was always young at heart. Anne was drawn towards ladies wear fashions at an early age. As a young woman, just moved off the farm, she worked at the Style Shop Ladies Wear. Later she and Martha McArthur (sister in law) purchased the ladies wear business. The business was sold sometime later so Anne could spend more time raising her family. Then countless hours were spent as Anne sewed for herself and her family needs. She went back to work, after her children were both in school, to manage the ladies wear department of the Robinson Department store. She worked there for twelve years. Anne spent her entire life in and around Hanna. Anne and Oscar were married in 1943. Glenda was born in 1949 and Murray in 1956. At her time of passing she was the matriarch of the family. Anne was predeceased by her father and mother, brother Ed, sister Edna, Oscar, son in law Lyman Trout, niece Debbie Lenfesty and nephews Bryan and Myles Diegel. Anne will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all. She is survived by her two children Glenda Trout, Murray (Karen) and her grandchildren: Cheryl, Kevin, (Elaine) and Corry Trout, Elise, Heather and Jessica Martin. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers memorial tributes can be made to the memorial fund of the Hanna First United Church P.O. Box 940, Hanna, AB T0J 1P0 or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation Room 124, Professional Building 430-6th Avenue S.E. Medicine Hat, AB T1A 2S8. Courtney-Winters Funeral Chapel was entrusted with funeral arrangements on Tuesday, October 4, 2011.
