Celeste Schrock has accepted the position of Principal of St. Anthony’s School.
Schrock has been a vice principal at the school and is excited to take on the new role
“St. Anthony’s School has a long history of high-quality, Catholic Education in the Drumheller Valley. It is an honour to be given the responsibility of continuing that tradition as the next Principal,” she says.
After graduating from the Nova Scotia Teachers College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Education, Mrs. Schrock moved west to begin her teaching career at St. Anthony’s School as a junior high PE and Math teacher. In 2001 she completed her Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Mount St. Vincent University.
In 2005, when a second Vice-Principal position was added to the school, Mrs. Schrock was given the opportunity to join the school administrative team. She has served in that role ever since. Over the years Mrs. Schrock has taught a range of grades from elementary to high school and a variety of subjects.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Morrison said, “Mrs. Schrock is a long-serving and talented member of the St. Anthony’s School community. She is a master teacher with superb interpersonal skills, and she’s committed to maintaining St. Anthony’s level of excellence.”
Mrs. Schrock will begin her transition to St. Anthony’s School in the spring.
Principal JoAnne Akerboom will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Wheatland County provides bylaw services to Hussar

Wheatland 2021

Wheatland County has granted a request from the Village of Hussar, which lies within the county’s boundaries, to provide bylaw services following the regular Tuesday, March 22 council meeting.
A formal request for services was sent by the village to the county in August 2021 after being discussed during one of Hussar’s council meetings.
“Between myself and our Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (Matthew Bascariol), we met with the CAO of the village (Kate Brandt) and came up with some agreements,” said Senior Peace Officer Kris Permann during the Wheatland County meeting.
He noted the agreements align and are similar to agreements with two other villages encompassed within Wheatland County’s borders, Rockyford and Standard.
The agreement for Wheatland County to provide Animal and Traffic Enforcement services was approved by the village.
Hussar had previously received bylaw services from neighbouring County of Newell, though there were some concerns regarding how infrequently these services were utilitized by the village. Former Mayor Corey Fisher had also noted during initial discussions bylaw officers had decided to handle a specific case with a phone call rather than attending the village to address the issue.
Wheatland County council unanimously approved the agreement, which went into effect immediately following its signing.
