Wheatland County has granted a request from the Village of Hussar, which lies within the county’s boundaries, to provide bylaw services following the regular Tuesday, March 22 council meeting.
A formal request for services was sent by the village to the county in August 2021 after being discussed during one of Hussar’s council meetings.
“Between myself and our Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (Matthew Bascariol), we met with the CAO of the village (Kate Brandt) and came up with some agreements,” said Senior Peace Officer Kris Permann during the Wheatland County meeting.
He noted the agreements align and are similar to agreements with two other villages encompassed within Wheatland County’s borders, Rockyford and Standard.
The agreement for Wheatland County to provide Animal and Traffic Enforcement services was approved by the village.
Hussar had previously received bylaw services from neighbouring County of Newell, though there were some concerns regarding how infrequently these services were utilitized by the village. Former Mayor Corey Fisher had also noted during initial discussions bylaw officers had decided to handle a specific case with a phone call rather than attending the village to address the issue.
Wheatland County council unanimously approved the agreement, which went into effect immediately following its signing.
