Faculty changes for 2022-2023 school year

Golden Hills new 2020

Although parents, students, and school staff alike may not be thinking about the 2022-2023 school year, for some local area schools the new school year will bring some changes to the staff and faculty.
Whether through retirement or accepting positions at other schools, there are several teachers and staff who will not be returning after the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Golden Hills School Division

Junior high social studies, construction and Reading 9 teacher at Drumheller Valley Secondary School (DVSS), Dawn Sullivan retired this year.
Fellow DVSS teacher Ryan Hatch will also be leaving to fulfill the role of new Associate Principal at the Carbon School, as reported in the May 4 edition of the Mail.
Another change to faculty at Carbon School is Librarian and Education Assistant Lynn Fabrick retired at the end of the school year.
Grade 5 teacher Kathy Gerritsen from Wheatland Crossing School is also gearing up for retirement.

Prairie Land School Division

Morrin School custodian Janet Kleinscroth retired from her position with the school at the end of this school year.
Teachers Trevor Wasylynuik and Kealey Gordon are also leaving the Morrin School faculty at the end of the school year.
Delia School does not have any retiring staff or teachers, though there will be some new faculty members at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year as two newer teachers, who were not named, have accepted positions elsewhere.

There are some big changes coming to the familiar faces at St. Anthony’s School in the 2022-2023 school year as several faculty members prepare to leave-either for retirement, or to take on new positions at other schools.
Principal JoAnne Akerboom is among the faculty members who retired at the end of the school year, along with Vice Principal Chris Bzdel. Students at St. Anthony’s will have a brand new administrative team leading the school in the coming years.
“I have been blessed to be part of the St. Anthony’s School and Drumheller community for over nine years. It has been the most rewarding vocation since the start of my career,” Principal JoAnne Akerboom tells the Mail.
French Kindergarten to Grade 6 teacher Lizbeth Dube and Education Assistants Carol Aiken and Tina Comstock also retired.
There will also be some changes to faculty as some teachers have accepted appointments to positions at other schools.
Grade 5 teacher Peter Jasinsky has accepted a transfer to the Our Lady of the Snows school in Canmore; Science, Math, and Religion teacher Anton Siaotong has also accepted a position at the Weber Academy in Calgary; and Senior Science, Math, Religion, Media, and Robotics teacher Paula Neuman has accepted an appointment as Vice Principal at Camrose Composite School.
With two of the administration team retiring, Vice Principal Celeste Schrock has accepted the appointment of Principal beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, as previously reported in the April 6 edition of the Mail.
Joining her on the leadership team are Susan Currie and Betina Gross as the school’s two new Vice Principals.
“My confidence in all three of them leaves me with no doubt the school is in good hands,” Ms. Akerboom shares.
She says she is looking forward to spending more time with her family during her retirement and is thankful and blessed for the staff, students, and community who have been her family during her nine years at St. Anthony’s.
