Corporal Charles promoted to Sergeant in Brooks

Corporal Kevin Charles’ career is taking him out of the valley, and down the road to Brooks.
Charles and his family arrived in  the valley from a posting in Northwest Territories almost six years ago. He has received a promotion to Sergeant at the City of Brooks detachment. This will take him out of the valley, his longest posting in his 16-year career.
Here he served as Corporal and as acting commander after Staff Sergeant Art Hopkins was transferred in January of this year, until Staff Sergeant Grant McDonald was posted in late August.
He learned of the transfer last week after a lengthy process.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Drumheller,” he said.
In Brooks, he will be taking on the role of Detachment Operations Supervisor.
The transfer could still take some time as the logistics aren't worked out.
“I fully anticipate on day trips to Drumheller in the years to come, both for work and personal reasons,” he said.

Construction site crash

truck

On Sept 21, 2015 at 10:42 PM Drumheller RCMP received a call about a truck that was speeding and became involved in an accident at a construction site along Railway Avenue East. When members arrived they found the truck without any occupants inside.  The truck had been traveling westbound on a service road between Railway Avenue East and where the railroad tracks used to be (the area where railroad ties are being collected).   The truck hit a dirt hill, then a generator and came to a stop against construction machinery. RCMP interviewed witnesses and were able to identify the driver, who turned himself into the RCMP a short time later, and a passenger.  There were no injuries as a result of the accident. A 19 year old male has been charged under the Traffic Safety Act for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and is set to appear in court on November 13, 2015 at 10:00 AM in Drumheller.
