Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) have recovered a number of stolen items, including some from the Drumheller area, and two suspects from Brooks are facing several charges.
In June 2023, SAD CRU was engaged to assist RCMP from the Brooks and Redcliff detachments in investigating an ongoing property crime spree occurring throughout southeastern Alberta.
During the course of the investigation, Travis Douglas Seitz, 32, and Brooke Ashley Mintz, 28, of Brooks were identified in multiple vehicles which were stolen during the ongoing spree.
However, they were able to evade arrest, fleeing from police recklessly at high rates of speed.
On Wednesday, July 5, SAD CRU located a stolen vehicle at a rural property near Redcliff. When police entered the location, the suspects drove the stolen truck through a fence to escape, narrowly missing police officers.
A subsequent search warrant conducted on the property uncovered two stolen trucks and three stolen trailers with an estimated value of $300,000.
On Tuesday, July 11, SAD CRU, with the assistance of RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Air Services, RCMP Police Dog Services, and Brooks RCMP General Investigative Services (GIS) located and arrested Seitz and Mintz near the Town of Raymond.
Upon arrest, Seitz and Mintz were in possession of a stolen holiday trailer, a stolen truck, and stolen property from two commercial break and enters which occurred in Redcliff.
Seitz has been charged with two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000; possession of stolen property under $5,000; and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
Mintz is also facing two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000; possession of stolen property under $5,000; and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
At the time of his arrest, Seitz was wanted on arrest warrants for similar offences out of Brooks, Taber, Medicine Hat and Drumheller. Seitz was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller on Friday, July 21.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time. Anyone with further information related to these matters is asked to contact Brooks or Redcliff RCMP.
