Road signs damaged in Starland County

On March 6, 2016 at 8:30 am, RCMP members attended a call of road signs being damaged in the Starland County area. The investigation revealed that someone had driven over 21 road signs in the area of junction 851 and 576 (northeast of Drumheller). 15 signs were driven over on highway 851 and 6 were driven over along highway 576. The estimated damage is more than $3000.00. It is not known how many vehicles were involved in the mischief. Tracks at the scene suggest that one of the vehicles may have had dual wheels.
If anyone has information about this or any other crime, please contact the Drumheller RCMP at (403)823-7590. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers will pay cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of persons responsible for committing a crime.


RCMP seek help in identifying Extra Foods break-in suspect

On March 6, 2016 at approximately 11:00 PM members responded to a break and enter alarm at the Extra Foods in Drumheller.
 
The suspect had already fled the scene when members arrived.
 
The investigation revealed that the suspect entered the store by smashing an exterior glass door and then they used tools to get into the pharmacy.  The tools were left behind and have been seized by police.
 
The suspect made off with flu medications and vaccines as well as allergy medications.  The suspects did not get any narcotics.
 
Surveillance footage shows one suspect that is described as being medium height, medium build, Caucasian male, wearing a dark toque, dark gloves, a jacket with a hood, dark grey / black checked shirt, blue jeans and his shoes had black soles with white around the sides.

Town names Darren Goldthorpe as manager, Recreation, Arts and Culture

The Town of Drumheller is pleased to announce the recent hiring of Darren Goldthorpe as the Manager of Recreation, Arts and Culture.
Mr. Goldthorpe brings with him over 17 years of experience within municipal recreation service and has an extensive background in the operations and programming of facilities including fieldhouses, arenas and aquatics programming. He also brings significant emergency management experience to the position having served over 15 years with the Town of High River.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to apply my experience in the Town of Drumheller – this is a great opportunity. We really like the community and look forward to being a big part of it,” says Goldthorpe.
This newly created position combines the day to day operations of the Badlands Community Facility with a big picture approach to community wide recreation, arts and culture – in line with the Town of Drumheller’s emphasis on providing outstanding programming to all of our users and community partners.
Mr. Goldthorpe commences his duties on March 21, 2016.
