On Friday, January 27 Brent Walker, General Manager for Co-op, presented many organizations donation cheques from funds raised through the til tape program.  David Friesen, Controller from the Co-op, said, “We gave to 41 groups in total. Cheques ranged from $11 to $1,089 with a total of $13,853.13.” Drumheller Co-op has been giving back to the community through the till tape program twice a year since 2000. Their year to date donations to the community through this program is over $300,000. “Any groups that are apart of the program accept the till tapes for them to total and bring in twice a year. We have been very happy with the program so far.” said Friesen.

Out with the old for Dinosaur Trail Golf & Country Club

Dinosaur Trail Golf and Country Club will be looking a lot different come the next season as the former clubhouse and pro shop is slated for demolition.
Last weekend the club held a garage sale to empty the facility and has reached an agreement with The Town of Drumheller to assist in demolishing the former facility.
Greg Morrow of the club’s board, explains everything will now be run out of the new clubhouse.
“The pro shop portion will be moved into the clubhouse facility. We will be housing that in the southeast corner of the clubhouse,” he said.
There will also be some storage outside the clubhouse with a Seacan.
He said their efforts are to make the club more viable.
“The fact of the matter is it would serve everybody better if we just had the pro shop within the new facility,” he explains. “It is going to reduce our management costs and our maintenance costs. With flooding this spring, it prompted us to take a more direct approach to doing something.”
There are no immediate plans for the site.
“With the old one, once we get it knocked down and leveled out, we are still debating things that might happen,” he said.

Dynos host successful tourney

The DVSS Junior A Girls Dynos basketball team faced some tough competition at their home tournament over the weekend.
The Dynos invited seven teams to a tournament last Friday and Saturday and they played well.
On Friday night, the Dynos faced Wheatland Crossing. They were able to defeat the Coyotes in a high scoring 57-20 game.
This put them in the semifinal to face a tough JC Charyk of Hanna. They lost a close game, 24-20.
That put them in the third place match where they faced Prairie Christian Academy in another close game, but fell 31-28.
Coach Jeff Messom said his team worked hard on the court.
“The girls played hard on the weekend, but we did not execute well at times on the defensive end of the floor, and the offensive end, which ended up costing us both games on Saturday against two good teams,” said Messom.
As with basketball sometimes the shots just don’t fall.

“Some of our key shooters hit a shooting slump on Saturday, they had some good looks at the rim in both games, but the ball just was not falling for them,” said Messom.
The Junior A Girls Dynos will be back on the court on February 9 to take on Three Hills on the road.
