Dinosaur Trail RV Resort, a member of Western Canada’s largest RV camping network, opened six new camping cabins and a three-room sleeping cabin at Drumheller’s busiest campground. The RV resort and campground is located less than 5 minutes from the Royal Tyrrell Museum.

Surrounded by friends, local businesses, the Drumheller Chamber of Commerce, Town Councillors, Drumheller Tourism, Alberta Parks and other interested public; Betty and Doug Callbeck, Managers at the Resort, were excited to show people around the cabins at the grand opening.

Betty stated, “We have spent the last few months renovating and outfitting the cabins and are proud to have them open for everyone’s use. We are the only local RV Resort to have a heated pool; as well as playgrounds, canoes, recreation hall, store and tons of children activities.”

The cabins feature all the luxuries of home while enjoying the great outdoors.  Each cabin comes complete with its own parking spot, outside covered deck, firepit, full kitchen, free WIFI, TV and Blu-ray, washroom and shower and can sleep 4 to 6 people.

The Drumheller Fire Department plucked three boaters from an island near Newcastle Beach after sinking their craft.
The Department was called out at about 9 p.m. Friday, June 16. Fire Chief Bruce Wade tells the Mail that three young men were boating on the river when they hit a log in the water.
‘There is an island upstream from Newcastle Beach. Part of the river channel goes between that island and the hospital, and they were just in that channel,” said Wade.
The jet boat sunk and the three occupants managed to pull themselves on to the island.
A resident living along the river reported the incident.
‘We responded with our Unit 11 Boat, and our Number 4 Rescue unit,” said Wade.
They launched from Newcastle Beach and were able to retrieve the boaters. There were no injuries.

In order to create a beautiful and aesthetically pleasing Drumheller, D.A.R.T.S, the Town of Drumheller, The Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce (DDCC), and local businesses and volunteers have banded together to achieve this goal.

Dave Carter, the main volunteer who rallied everyone together, noticed the planters in the downtown core and by the World’s Largest Dinosaur were not being kept up so he asked to see if he could extend a hand.

“I talked to the Town and the Chamber ,” said Carter. “They saw no reason we couldn’t do it and then I approached D.A.R.T.S. as part of their annual flower fundraising program.”

15 planters are currently available and as the program grows, more will turn up.

“So thats our future as we move forward – we want to slowly expand throughout the valley,” said Carter.

Carter is thrilled with how the program is moving forward and adds great benefits to the community.

“I think it’s a message to all in Drumheller. It shows that the community really cares and that we take pride in our community to make it look beautiful,” said Carter.

The contribution to adopting one of the plants covers the cost of the flowers and the fertilizer for the entire summer. No participants need to take care of the plants making it ‘the easiest gardening you’ll ever do.’

If interested in getting involved, email Carter at prehistoricboy@telus.net or call 403-874-5361.

“If you want to be apart of it, you can be apart of it,” said Carter.
